Deb Lantz

With more than 25 years of communications experience, Deb Lantz’s career encompasses a range of marketing communications expertise. Her background in marketing, communications and media relations includes careers with leading agencies, corporations and academic organizations.

Currently executive director at the graduate business school at Carnegie Mellon (Tepper School of Business), Deb directs marketing strategy, digital marketing, media relations, market research, social media, branding and publications for the school. Working with faculty, alumni, students, and campus constituents, she has responsibility for the creation and global implementation of the school’s first comprehensive marketing organization/outreach.

Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon, Deb was senior manager of marketing communications at Heinz North America. Positioned as an “in-house agency,” the corporate function provided a range of services for retail and foodservice marketing and sales teams. She spearheaded memorable campaigns supporting the launch of Heinz EZ Squirt (green ketchup), U.S. product launches and line extensions for the ketchup, gravy, vinegar and sauces brand groups as well as strategic planning support for marketing-related plans. It was also at Heinz she established an internal program dedicated to crisis preparedness and training for the company’s 13 manufacturing facilities as well as issues modules to manage corporate acquisitions and downsizing initiatives.

Her marketing communications career is grounded in agency services and communications consulting.   She has worked for well-known firms in New York, including Ruder Finn and Edelman Worldwide, specializing in healthcare and pharmaceutical product introductions. In Pittsburgh, Deb served as an account supervisor with Ketchum on behalf of the H.J. Heinz Company, Chevron and Allegheny General Hospital.

Deb and her husband, John, reside in Allegheny West on Pittsburgh’s North Side, and both are graduates of the Leaders Collaborative XIV. Past board affiliations have included a four-year term (2012 – 2015) as a member of the Board of Visitors for Trinity Seminary. Both Lantzes are currently volunteers with Tenwek Hospital in West Africa, Kenya. Deb is a member of the Marketing Advisory Board for the Graduate Management Admissions Council based in Washington, DC, and she speaks at higher education conferences on branding, segmented marketing, digital advertising, and marketing R.O.I.
